Saturday night saw a big battle commence on our TV screens, on BBC1, you had Eurovision 2009, while on ITV, you had Britain’s Got Talent. It was up to the viewers to make their choice, and it was BGT that won on the night.
The Guardian reports that Britain’s Got Talent managed to pull in 9.8 million viewers or 41 percent of the share between 8.20pm and 9.20pm. The Eurovision Song Contest managed to average 7.8 million viewers, which was a 35% share between 8pm and 11.15pm.
Although it was lower than Britain’s Got Talent, it was the first time that Eurovision had pulled in that many viewers, something that has to do with Graham Norton taking over from Terry Wogan. Viewers did peak to 9.8 million; this was for the final 15 minutes of the contest.
